A Weekend Guide to Carmel-by-the-Sea, California

In Carmel-by-the-Sea, snug homes are named, rather than numbered, and neon signs and chain restaurants are out of the question. Visitors must make do with the timeless pleasures of cycling along the beach, exploring hidden passageways, attending live concerts, sampling regional food and wine, and touring almost 100 art galleries.

A Leisurely Guide to London

Where to Stay in London London is a sprawling city, to put it lightly. As a taxi driver told us, one could easily spend two hours driving across the city, whether North to South or West to East—and that’s not even at rush hour!

Montage Palmetto Bluff

Palmetto Bluff is a very special place. Time is suspended there. My mother and I had our hearts set on relaxing in low country nature during our road trip, so we made a reservation at Montage Palmetto Bluff. This award-winning resort only 30 minutes from Savannah is located on 20,000 acres of land, much of which is nature preserve. Bird sanctuaries, tidal marshes, forested bike paths, and the beautiful May River stretch across the landscape. Its beauty rivals that of some national parks.

Smitten with Savannah

Our first stop on our tour was Savannah, Georgia, a city which utterly enchanted us. The live oaks dripping with Spanish moss, the gently hued historic architecture, and the dramatic passing thunderstorms gave the city a painterly, other-worldly quality. Moreover, the people were the friendliest we've met anywhere, always ready with a smile, and occasionally a ghost story.

Virginia Country Roads

Many wonderful trips are devoted to gourmet food, striking architecture, beautiful interiors, and charming cafés. This was not one of those trips. This was a trip of big mountains, big sky, grab-and-go barbecue, and highway motels.

Already Summer in Virginia

After taking some time to explore Washington, D.C. and its many museums, we were in the mood for a leisurely day outside. Having recently learned from a wine bottle (where else?) that Virginia does, in fact, have an abundance of vineyards, we decided we would find one nearby and make a day of it.

A Weekend Guide to Washington, D.C.

Rolan has been working in D.C. for the last few weeks, so as soon as I finished my last class of college (!), I hopped on a plane to visit him. I love D.C. for its exceptional layout (designed by a French man), its free museums, its historic charm, and its endlessly fascinating present.
